The Swedish State National Encyclopedia

The governmental institution Statens Kulturråd (Kulturrådet), (The Swedish National Council for Cultural Affairs) was commissioned by the government to officially supervise the publication of The Swedish State National Encyclopedia. A perfect warranty to ensure that the encyclopedia would become an Emperors Mirror for the long reigning Party, glorifying its history and hiding unsuitable facts and wrinkles in the democratic facade.
When in 1996 volume 19 was being published, the word ‘underground’ raised problems. In Sweden, underground was almost synonymous with the poster image of the “Hash Girl”. So they decided to use my poster image without asking me, nor wanted to give me credit for my work by mentioning my name. A photographer was engaged to take a photo of the poster, and then he was given the full credit as the solely creator of the poster image!
Statens Kulturråd is clearly responsible for violating my copyrights and depriving me the credit, not only in my lifetime but also for generations to come. The encyclopedia is printed in such a large edition to last for decades, and cannot be corrected. The only excuse is, like the chief editor says, “it is an Utopia to think that such a large work should be without faults.” But in this case, ‘the fault’ was well suited, Masterminded by Statens Kulturråd.
