“I-A-S-P-I-S is a Government funded institution supporting Swedish artists exhibiting abroad.
The main purpose of IASPIS is to facilitate creative dialogues and collaborations between artists from
Sweden and from other countries. IASPIS, in operation since 1996, has played a role in the
internationalisation of Swedish art, both as an institution that financially support artists and
as a small and flexible agent that creates new connections between artists, writers and curators.”
That is how IASPIS present themselves on their own official homepage.
An eminent British curator and art critic
contacted IASPIS in 2002 to get some more information about “the Swedish artist” Sture Johannesson.
He was told that IASPIS did not know anything at all about an artist with that name. That made him stunning,
since he had seen my works on exhibition in UK and other places, and also read about me in international art magazines.
So IASPIS had to clarify: “We only register the more serious artist, and there are so many
calling themselves artists today… sorry, but we never heard anything about this ‘Sture Johannesson’.”
That is all the “information” you can get from the secretary for the Swedish State Art Control Stations IASPIS.
