…“access” or more “inaccessibility”

Dear Sture Johannesson, I just arrived in Stockholm to be a resident for 4 months at IASPIS. The first days in a new country are always a bit strange and somehow uncomfortable. I walked around a lot and tried to feel where I am. After three days I came across a little shop around the corner of the IASPIS building and saw this poster for sale; the Aries — Pisces — Aquarius poster. I fell for it. The design, the images, the signs but above all the story about the three men wanting to get in to the museum. This story told exactly, and I couldn’t have formulated it better, the ideas and thoughts that I’m dealing with in my work at the moment. So I bought the poster. It’s hanging now in my studio, the studio that is, except for a table and a chair, completely empty. In a way, the act of buying the poster and finding a local relation to my work, was enough to make me feel more ‘at home’. I wanted to tell you about it and it’s always good to share work and ideas!
I guess there is a lot on the poster that can be explained, a lot of signs and images that would make more sense when you tell about them. As it seems now, the modern swedish tale could function for me as a starting point to make new work. Although our work is completely different, there could be an interesting overlap. Many of my installations deal with the idea of ‘access’ or more ‘inaccessibility’, they ask questions about aggression and security. […] It could be nice if we would meet. You could tell me more about the poster and it’s context. I’d be happy to tell you why it’s special to me and how it relates to my work. What do you think? Hoping to hear from you! all the best, Lucas Lenglet
